Using and Applying Mathematics

UAM and Investigative ideas Get your pupils thinking

Every question from key stages 1, 2 and 3 tests with marks allocated for UAM with a selection extended to stimulate and challenge children to investigate further.

UAM across the key stages provides teachers with a collection of nearly 400 test questions from Progress, Optional and end of key stage tests at KS1, KS2 and KS3 that require pupils to Use and Apply Mathematics.
Using Testbase you can search for UAM questions by topic, by specific aspect of UAM, key stage and level. The questions can be mixed and matched so you are not restricted to one key stage and can use the materials with all years.
Investigative ideas
Many people involved in mathematics education have always been concerned that AT1, Using and Applying Mathematics, should be taught well. The QCA test questions, which in the Test situation demand a narrow and focused answer, can in a classroom lesson be a productive stimulus to a wide range of investigative and practical work and hence to better learning of mathematics. In the UAM package you will find teaching ideas to stimulate and challenge children to investigate, linked to a range of questions. You can use these as they are and as a model to develop more activities for the classroom.
Good for progression, INSET and interpretation of the curriculum
The questions have been indexed by as shown:

This database includes original QCA questions and mark schemes linked to National Curriculum Programmes of Study. The analysis of pupil performance, reports and links to the National Strategy key objectives are available in the full key stage mathematics packages at each key stage. Please note there are no additional KS1 materials as there were no new tests this year.
