Testbase 2007/8
Making Good Progress

What is Testbase?

Testbase provides teachers with an assessment resource making the most of the QCA national test materials that have been developed over the years: individual questions, mark schemes and commentary.

Whatever developments and initiatives occur in the coming years, Testbase will continue to meet the needs of teachers in Monitoring Children's Progress. Whether you need something for formative or summative assessment at any level across key stages 1, 2 and 3, you will find it in Testbase.

You can compile you own materials using the individual questions and resources or you can use ready-made documents prepared by experts.

Testbase is used by over 15,000 individual schools and by many Local Authorities who purchase collective licences for all their schools. The software is also used by teacher training colleges, universities and the National Strategies.

Important info for Maths users - Issue 11 (2007/8)

Mental Mathematics is a new Testbase product. Any mental maths questions have been separated from all key stage levels of Testbase Mathematics. This means that if you have Maths .exd files created in an earlier Testbase (Issue 10 or earlier), they will not open in Testbase Issue 11 (2007/8)

The reason the files won't open is that they include questions no longer in the database.

This year Testbase was reorganised and some older materials were removed to ensure that Testbase reflects the greater emphasis on UAM and the changes to the test questions. The mental maths questions were put into a separate database as there was a mixture of questions for pupils (written papers) and transcripts for teachers (mental papers).

If you want to read the old Testbase (.exd) files that you created, you need to right click on the file and select 'open with' then choose Notepad. This will display all the question codes in a file so that you can see which ones you have used and recreate in the latest edition. Alternatively, you could install the old version on a single computer so that you can re-open, edit to remove the problematic questions, save and open in Issue 11.
